Joe´s Garage is definately "hot"
You will have there a lot of fun, if you like party...:-)
After Joes you have to go to Grand Cafe to enjoy there the rest of the time...There are a lot of good Djs and its really fun, because everyone is going there...
If you are too tired to make party the Terapia Bar is nice to relax (Near Whytes)
Have fun by visiting^^

This is a cool website! I would've found this helpful before my holiday last year. However, I am returning and will be checking out some of the restaurants I have just found out about. I agree with the comments, Whytes Bar and Joes Garage were my favourite bars. I am returning on a hen week in August and we will prop up these bars for sure! Rock on Lagos!

What a fab week - spent most of the time running between 'inside out', red eye', 'joes garage' & then onto the 'grand cafe'. You can't fail to have fun or get drunk with the free shots & massive cocktails - would go back to Lagos in a second!!!!

Bar 53 in same family ownership for more than 30 years, with same courteous attention to all customers, from mine hosts, Frank & Yvonne.. A wide and loyal international customer base who enjoy a traditional " Pub " atmosphere, without games & gimmicks, who visit Lagos on a regular basis, use Bar 53 as their nightly local. Excellent range of top-shelf drinks at reasonable prices. Oh and by the way... their toilets are the cleanest in Lagos !!

Mullen's bar & restaurant is a place we always visit at least once every time we stay in Lagos. Excellent friendly service in this really atmospheric old building with very good food (I recommend the duck & prawns) & superb house wine. We love the atmosphere but why oh why don't they do something about the disgusting toilets?

I think red eye is a good place to start drinking about 9ish, its a great place to meet new people if u just hang around in there for a couple of hours your bound to meet new people, Joes garage can be good but beware some of the barmen can occasionally be quite dodge so check your change and watch the spirits they put in your drinks(I also always thought it smelt strongly of sick in there) I must say the massive beer bong is worth a try in there if ur a heavy drinker if u complete it its free! if not then is 10 euros.

Whytes just round the corner from joes is a great place, say hello to zac and ben from me if there still working there there reps for the bar, the basement in whytes is awesome they play good music and its always packed of teenagers, also its a free refill on beer before 11 so its good to get in there about 10.45 as the basement usually opens around 11ish when the bar is full

All the bars above shut at 2am

The last bar i would recommend is the sports cafe, dont be put off by the name its not a cafe but the djs in there are definitely the best in the area, a good time to go is around 12ish or at 2am when all the other bars shut as the sports bar shuts at 3.30,

When i was in lagos they had a foam party ever Wednesday at dux, foam parts are really really good but beware dont wear anything you dont mind getting ruined and if u go there get ur tops off!

DUX shuts about 6am but doesn’t usually have many people inside unless there is a event inside but it can be good if a big group of you head down there

I have written this review as a 17yo teenager so these are the best bars to hit if ur my age, many people will probably recommend 'the grand cafe' but believe me its shit ever1 is huddled together like penguins and u wont find any1 in there under 30

and incase your wondering they DONT HAVE THE SMOKING BAN and I think the drinking age is 16 but i didnt see any1 get ID the whole time i was out there

We are so glad you have a warning about Taberna de Lagos. We have been visiting Lagos for over 18 years and have never come across such a rip-off place as this. Well done.

jhag said Portugal doesn't have a smoking ban......sorry but it does; since 1st January 2008! Thank goodness. Now we can all eat and drink in an even more pleasant atmosphere.

Agree about Mullens toilets...they have been like that for c.18 years! How do they get away with them. Also I have never known a restaurant/bar NOT to have a phone..they used to have.have they not paid their bill!!

I went into the 3 monkeys 4 times over a 2 weeks period, because i had heard so many good things about the place.WHAT A LET DOWN............The place stinks of vomit,I mean really really bad.And the place is so clickey and bar staff only talk to their friends and locals, they really don't make an effort to make you feel welcome. Then there's the toilets "urghhhhhh!"
And this place owns a restaurant?

12:05 AM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yes I agree with the clickey 3 monkeys bar.
They just did not want to speak to me.
I went to Jonnos "excellent"

Just got back from a weeks stay, we need to go again just to get through the rest of the bars...

for food, layjacks is awesome, a huge plate of food and a pint for 6euro's
went to one monkey diner (attatched to 3 monkeys maybe??) great food but really slow service, worth it if tou've got the time
as for bars, camel bar is actually awesome, did the 5 jaeger shots for my free t-shirt :) (Put it on the list!!!)
Redeye bar is very laid back, great cocktails too
Didn't see calypso on the list either, good if you're drunk as they do karaoke every night if you want it, can be a bit quiet though, even on a saturday night
And at grand cafe hang around outside, you get to meet loads of people
On recommendations of local flyers apparently insideout and joes are good, we just didn't have time :)
Lagos is probably THE place to party, enjoy :)

Lagos is great at New Years. The bars and restaurants are open and the streets are full. There are fireworks and most of the bars stay open until daylight.

Without a doubt Zanzibar is the best place for a great night out - with a great guy/barman Alex providing not only fabulous drinks but also the entertainment this place provided the fun factor to our stay in Lagos - well worth a visit! Don't forget to try the B52's, but be careful you don't get your eyebrows singed - do you dare? :-)

I recently travelled to Lagos and went for a drink in the bars on Saturday night with my friends and sister, at the end of the evening we headed to the taxi rank, the town centre was crowded with locals looking for a fight with tourists!
I came to the aid of a young English man being repeatedly kicked in the face on the floor for no reason!
As I tried to help the man the gang turned on me and my sister, they attacked her leaving her with a bloody head wound needing hospital treatment. And I was soon on the floor being beaten!
No police when present to come to our Aid and after calling the police no one turned up!
I strongly recommend you have your wits about you in the evening in this town, as I later found out in the hospital this is not uncommon and happen on a regular basis!
I will never return to this town! The police need to look at how safe it is in the evenings and provide a police presence before someone is killed from local gangs!

LazyJacks and South Bar in Marina are wonderful for people that want to stay in UK while actually they are in Portugal. South Bar staff doesn't even try a word of portuguese. I m going to propose Lagos Mayor to offer an english-portuguese dictionary to South Bar staff and owners.

After reading the positive review on here we tried Bar 53. Never again. The owner who runs the bar turned out to be an odious ill mannered little man. We and our friends with us at the time have since been told that we are far from alone with our experience.

Hi,

I happened to have a horrible experience at 3 monkeys bar in lagos. I was outside having a smoke when a worker at 3 monkeys was throwing a guy out of the bar. The guy being thrown out was clearly very drunk and the worker started punching him in the face, then while he was on the ground he wound up and kicked him in the face and then proceeded to keep punching him after. I told him to stop and he came at me, and was very angry. I think he would have punched me too if I wouldn't have been with other people who stopped him. The whole thing after was handled very poorly by the staff and I was just told it would be better for me to leave. It ruined my night and i'm sure that it ruined the guys who got kicked in the face too. There are a ton of great bars in Lagos. I suggest skipping this one.
